Seal of Biliteracy

seal

The School District of Washington is pleased to offer students the opportunity to earn up to 18 no-cost college credits through the Missouri Seal of Biliteracy program.

To attain the Missouri Seal of Biliteracy, students demonstrate proficiency in English and one other language.

For native English speakers, this will generally consist of:

  1. A "proficient" or higher score on the English II E.O.C. exam
  2. Completion of an in-class project to demonstrate sociocultural competency
  3. Score of I3 or higher on all four sections of the AAPPL exam OR a score of 3 or higher on the AP World Language exam

Students who earn the Missouri Seal of Biliteracy will have this achievement noted on their final transcripts and receive a certificate.

English Language Learners have similar requirements for earning the Seal of Biliteracy. Students do not have to take world language classes to earn the Seal.

For students taking world language courses, the AAPPL exam should not be taken until a student has completed at least three years of world language studies, but preferably four. The cost of the AAPPL exam is $20. The exam may be retaken once within 90 days if a student does not pass one or more sections on the first attempt.

The Missouri Seal of Biliteracy is endorsed by many Missouri businesses and institutions of higher education.
