Colleges and Universities across Missouri offer a wide variety of summer programs for all academic areas; this includes leadership and career exploration. Audrey Walton Youth Leadership Conference

Started in 1995 as a program of the Show-Me STATE GAMES, The Audrey Walton Youth Leadership Program provides opportunities for Missouri youth (high school juniors & seniors) to gain skills that will assist them in becoming leaders in their communities and schools. Named after and generally sponsored by Audrey Walton, a great leader in her own right, this program promotes the importance of leadership, physical fitness, higher education, and a healthy life-style.

During the 3-day conference, we will engage in several activities that will encourage the students to step up and be leaders amongst themselves. All of the students will participate in both indoor and outdoor team activities. They will attend a luncheon as well as a dinner banquet where they will have the opportunity to listen to some of our state's outstanding leaders. The Audrey Walton Youth Leadership Program is certainly an experience that can help any student become a true leader in their schools and communities.

Boys State and Girls State

American Legion Boys State and American Legion Auxiliary Girls State are the premier programs for teaching how government works while developing leadership skills & an appreciation for your rights as a citizen. As a participant in the program you, will run for office, learn public speaking, create and enforce laws and actively participate in all phases of creating and running a working government in this exciting and fun summer program.

You'll meet other students from across your state who will become friends for life. You'll develop confidence and leadership skills that will shape your future. Many states offer scholarships or admission preference for attendees of Boys or Girls State.

Leadership in Practice

The best way to develop leadership skills is to practice, practice, practice. For four days each June, that's exactly what Missouri's brightest freshmen and sophomore student leaders do in Leadership in Practice.

Leadership in Practice is designed to provide young people with the opportunity to learn characteristics of excellent leadership, entrepreneurship and life skills so they can apply those skills in their own lives when they return to their schools and communities.

Missouri Cadet Patrol Academy

Missouri Cadet Patrol academy sponsored by the American Legion Department of Missouri in cooperation with the Missouri Highway Patrol nomination forms are available. The underlying purpose of the Missouri Cadet Patrol Academy is to provide firsthand experience of the role of our law enforcement officers in promoting and safeguarding American freedoms and rights. It is hoped that the young men and women who participate in the Cadet Patrol Academy will develop favorable attitudes toward law enforcement and help disseminate these attitudes throughout the community. Qualifications are :

• Age16-18
• C Average or Higher
• In excellent physical condition

Mizzou Engineering Summer Camp Program

High School Summer Camp

Are you interested in engineering? Do you want to experience life as a Mizzou Engineering student? Then Mizzou Engineering's High School Summer Camp is for you!

Hear presentations from each of the College's departments and work on hands-on projects designed to give students a taste of what each discipline specializes in.These projects include building balsa wood bridges, designing and creating super balls, building soda-bottle rockets, constructing circuits, coding on computers and more.

You'll also receive the full Mizzou campus experience, staying in the dorms and getting a taste of what MU's campus dining options have to offer. You'll also have the chance to make good use of the pool facilities at the rec center and several other campus activities.

Mizzou High School Mini Med School

The University of Missouri - School of Medicine offers an exciting and informative summer experience for high school students interested in a career in medicine. MU's High School Mini Medical School is a one-week program that gives students a preview of life as an MU medical student. The program includes:

-Hands-on experience in anatomy, suturing, and clinical skills

-Introduction to MU's innovative patient-based learning (PBL) curriculum

-Seminars on college and medical school entrance and medical school life

In addition, students will attend special sessions with clinical and research specialists and have meaningful interactions with current medical students, faculty and staff of the School of Medicine.

Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies

This year, Stanford University will once again select the finest students from across the United States and around the world to participate in its summer programs for high school students. As a high school college counselor, we hope you will discuss these opportunities with your top students and encourage them to learn more about Stanford Pre-Collegiate Summer Institutes and Summer College.

Summer Institutes

At Summer Institutes, students ages 14-17 will engage in 3-4 week intensive study single-subject courses with instructors and peers who share their talents, passions, and interests. Coursework is tightly integrated with the social experience in academically themed houses. Courses in areas ranging from biotechnology to entrepreneurship and creative writing are customized to give students deep exposure and hands-on experience.

Summer College

At Summer College, students from around the world ages 16-19 will choose from more than 125 college courses in 30 academic departments, earning undergraduate course credit and an official Stanford University transcript. Students in the residential and the commuting Summer College programs create their own course schedules and experience what life is like as an undergraduate student at Stanford.

STAPH - Summer Talent Academy for Professions in Health

Students who are currently enrolled in the 10th or 11th grade may be nominated by their school counselor or principal if they hold a 3.25 cumulative GPA and a 3.5 GPA in the basic sciences.

Students who have previously attended, and successfully completed, Truman's three-week Joseph Baldwin Academy for Eminent Young Scholars (JBA), do not need to be nominated; however, they must notify the STAPH office of their interest by the nomination deadline in order to receive application materials and must have the required GPA to be admitted.

Students do not need to provide standardized test scores for admission to the program. However, since entry into the program is competitive, students are welcome to submit such scores if they feel that they will strengthen their application. Grades, letters of support, and essays, as well as optional test scores, will all be considered when making admissions decisions.

The number of students admitted to the program will be limited to no more than 50 students.
