Seal of Biliteracy

Seal of Biliteracy

The School District of Washington is pleased to announce that we can officially offer our students the opportunity to earn up to 18 free college credits through the Seal of Biliteracy program.

To attain the Seal of Biliteracy, students will :

1. Score "proficient" on the English II E.O.C. exam

2. Complete a large socio-cultural project to share with their World Language class

3. Score a 3 or higher on the AAPPL exam (Intermediate or higher level) OR Score a 3 or higher on the AP World Language exam.

Successful completion of the three items listed above will result in acknowledgement of the Seal of Biliteracy on the student's high school transcripts, as well as a certificate.

The AAPPL exam should not be taken until a student has completed at least three years of world language studies, but preferably four. The cost of the AAPPL exam is $20. It costs $24 to take the exam online.

The Missouri Seal of Biliteracy is endorsed by the following Missouri businesses and institutions of higher education.

To find out more about how each recognizes the Seal of Biliteracy, scroll to the bottom of this website page https://dese.mo.gov/college-career-readiness/curriculum/missouri-seal-biliteracy.

If a student is interested in an out-of-state university or college after their high school graduation, it is recommended that the student contacts that university directly to find out of the MO Seal of Biliteracy will be accepted for credit at that college.

Students that study two World Languages may be eligible for the Distinguished Seal of Biliteracy and should work with their high school teachers and counselors to determine how various colleges acknowledge the Distinguished Seal.
